Status and Migration to Quantum-Safe TLS in Switzerland

The basic requirements for secure communication: confidentiality, integrity and authenticity are highlighted. The threat of "harvest-now, decrypt-later" in connection with TLS is explained and solutions for mitigating this danger are presented. Short demos illustrate the practical implementation options. Finally, an overview of the current state of Internet domains in Switzerland is given based on an analysis of one million '.ch' domains.

Mischa Obrecht works as a cyber security specialist and ethical hacker at Dreamlab Technologies AG. He studied Computational Science and Engineering at ETH Zurich and has extensive knowledge of cyber security, data science and project management. He also works as a lecturer, pentester, incident responder and consultant and has been involved in HORIZON Europe projects such as SAPPAN (Sharing and Automation for Privacy-Preserving Attack Neutralisation).

Dr Martin Schmatz is a senior researcher at IBM Research Europe in Zurich. He studied electrical engineering and earned his doctorate at ETH Zurich. Following research in the field of I/O link technology and IT server systems, he has been working on issues relating to the security of keys in the cloud since 2017 and, in particular, on migration to quantum-secure communication since 2020.
