Thanks to the targeted combination of enormous amounts of data - and with the help of state-of-the-art technologies - patterns can be recognized, diagnoses improved and solutions identified. Dr. Severin Schwan, former CEO and current Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding AG, explains why data is the fuel and linchpin of contemporary research.

Dr Severin Schwan is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd. After studying economics and law, he joined Roche as a trainee in 1993. He became CEO of the Roche Group in 2008 and led the company until 2023. Under his leadership, Roche made progress in personalised healthcare and cancer research and became a leader in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics industry.
